ON THE ISSUES
Jobs
One of the biggest barriers to good jobs in our community is employment discrimination. Darlene wrote Local Law 33, giving the city more muscle to investigate employment discrimination. This law ensured that folks looking for jobs here in NYC truly have a fair shot.
Education
Darlene Mealy is proud to have the endorsement of the United Federation of Teachers because of her unique commitment to fight for Central Brooklyn students and schools.
Affordable Housing
Darlene is doing her part to fight gentrification and ensure that the city builds more affordable housing instead of giving tax breaks to luxury developers. Darlene is also working to make home ownership more accessible for people in this community.
Public Safety
Darlene knows first-hand the dangers our community faces from gun violence, gang activity and drug abuse, due to decades of underinvestment from the city. She is committed to keeping our community safe, and ending homelessness on our streets.
Seniors
Darlene has years of experience working with the Department of the Aging and related agencies to be sure they are fulfilling their mandate to serve our elderly population. She is proud to have supported senior programming and food resources for seniors in our community throughout her career representing this community.
